The high-end Swiss watchmaker Hublot has made a name for itself by producing watches with innovative materials, pursuing what the brand calls the Art of Fusion. Recently, Hublot collaborated with Nespresso to launch a limited-edition Big Bang watch crafted from coffee grounds, making it environmentally friendly.
Specifically, the Swiss coffee company Nespresso is striving to reduce the use of single-use aluminum capsules. One of these efforts is the Second Life project, launched in 2016, to encourage the recycling of coffee capsules, allowing them to be reused.
Recycled aluminum coffee capsules are sold to other industries to create items, a prime example being the Hublot Big Bang Unico Nespresso Origin watch.
Collaboration is a common concept in the watch industry, and Hublot is undoubtedly one of the most active watch brands in this area.
In their latest and rather surprising collaboration, Hublot and Nespresso have created a limited-edition Big Bang watch using recycled aluminum coffee capsules to form the watch case, while used coffee grounds are used to make the watch strap.
Besides using these recycled materials, the only unique signature on the watch is the letter “N” representing Nespresso, attached to the crown, alongside the green (main) color of the watch, inspired by the Nespresso Master Origins Peru Organic coffee capsule.
The Hublot Big Bang Unico Nespresso Origin has a 42 mm diameter, with a case made of 28% recycled aluminum, then anodized to achieve its green color.
The back of the watch and the movement are made of eco-titanium, with water resistance up to 100 meters.
The strap is made from environmentally friendly materials; the first strap is made from 4.1% recycled coffee and 8.2% recycled white rubber.
The second strap of the Hublot Big Bang Unico Nespresso Origin is made of SingTex, a Nespresso partner specializing in fabrics made from 5% recycled coffee and 95% recycled polyester.
The one-click strap change system allows you to change straps in seconds without special tools.
This limited-edition Big Bang watch is equipped with the HUB1280 automatic chronograph movement manufactured by Hublot. First introduced in 2009, the Unico caliber is one of the few movements with a column wheel placed on the front of the watch.
Therefore, the intricate details of the Hublot HUB1280 chronograph movement are displayed on the front for users to easily admire, with the predominant green color.
The Hublot Big Bang Unico Nespresso Origin is a limited edition of only 200 pieces worldwide, with a starting price of 25,200 EUR (approximately $27,000 USD).
